CEO’s "Million Mile Challenge" Will Double in 2010

DALTON GA, December 1, 2009 – What was anticipated to take a full year was accomplished two months early. In October, Beaulieu associates surprised their fitness coach (aka Ralph Boe, CEO and President of Beaulieu of America) by crossing the 1 million mile finish line ahead of schedule. Boe led the charge for his “Million Mile Challenge” to encourage all Beaulieu associates to walk each day for better fitness and health by practicing what he preached (by walking 613.1 miles so far this year). The program began with the new year and ended with a celebration … and a challenge. “I’m so proud of the effort to not only achieve, but beat the 1 Million Mile Challenge. It puts us that much further ahead in being more responsible for our individual health and improved quality of life,” announced Boe. “Our goal for 2 million miles in 2010 can definitely become a reality.” The Million Mile Challenge encouraged Beaulieu associates to plan walking time into their daily routines. Company management accommodated and even set up walking courses at Beaulieu facilities. The goal was a healthier workforce and holding the line on insurance premiums. Within weeks, reports of successful results were reported to the “Be Your Best” wellness team : pounds lost (7,600 lbs. collectively at last count), lower blood pressures, coming off of medications, etc. In October, Beaulieu was one of only 820 companies (and the only one in the floor covering industry) to receive the American Heart Association “The Start! Fit-Friendly Company” honors in Fortune magazine. Beaulieu’s walking challenge was recognized as part of a much broader fitness program including healthier choices in company vending machines, easy access to water, “Be Your Best” weight control programs, “smoke outs” to help associates quit smoking, employee newsletters promoting good health and others. “Beaulieu Cares” Committee Nears Goal for 2009 They Keep Local Red Cross Food Pantry Stocked Year-Round

DALTON GA, October 29, 2009 – For most people, the urge to be charitable strikes about this time of year. However, for hundreds of Beaulieu of America associates, it’s a year-round passion. Eight years ago, a group of community-minded volunteers at this major Dalton-based carpet producer discovered that shelves in the local food bank needed re-stocking. Thanks to their dedication, that’s never been a problem again. Every year, the Beaulieu Cares Committee puts on fund-raising events, from bake sales to raffles to weenie roasts (there have been 19 fund-raisers so far this year) on their own time to raise money to feed the less fortunate in their community. Carl Bouckaert, one of the owners of Beaulieu, offered to match what was raised after the third year and been actively involved ever since. Every fall, Carl and an entourage of Beaulieu staffers load-up grocery carts for the Red Cross. Beaulieu is unique in its level of support and has tried to encourage and challenge other floor covering companies to pitch-in with their own efforts, but without much success, according to Christina Wright, staff assistant in Beaulieu’s financial services department and treasure of the committee. The need is greater than ever, with the unemployment rate in the area hovering around 12.4% according to the Dalton Daily Citizen. Last year, the Murray county food bank served approximately 13,000 people and assisted hundreds more through its referral service, thanks to Beaulieu. Bliss carpet featured at region’s largest and longest running home show Atlanta GA March 26, 2009— Several thousand homeowners signed-up for free Bliss at the spring Atlanta Home Show at the Cobb Galleria and Convention Center, March 19-22. Beaulieu of America, in partnership with Atlanta Flooring Resource & Design, gave away a house-full of Bliss carpet to one lucky attendee. The drum holding the entry forms had to be emptied several times a day because it was getting too full, according to Sharon Edwards, one of the owners of Atlanta Flooring Resource. LAS VEGAS, Feb. 3, 2009 – One of the largest exhibitors at Surfaces hosted some of the biggest titles in women's and shelter magazines at an invitation-only luncheon just off the show floor in the Venetian hotel. ATLANTA GA, September 30, 2008 — In a further demonstration of taking the brand to the consumer, Beaulieu brought Bliss to homeowners in the Atlanta area by participating in the Atlanta Home Show at the Cobb Galleria Convention Center. As on of the region’s largest and most popular home shows, it attracts 30 – 40,000 each fall and spring.
